The health and wellness industry has grown exponentially over the last several years as people are recognizing the many benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle. According to the Global Wellness Institute, “the industry grew by 6.4 percent annually from 2015-2017, from a $3.7 trillion to a $4.2 trillion market.”
Those looking to live a healthier lifestyle or reach new physical achievements can quickly feel overwhelmed, oftentimes now knowing where to start, what to do, and what works best. Additionally, people are forced to move around their schedule to accommodate fitness classes, trainers and gym hours, adding unwanted stress to a practice trying to eliminate it.
This is where Grant Reid saw an opportunity to disrupt the market and make health and wellness accessible for all.
Founded in 2012, GFIT Wellness has quickly become one of Canada’s fastest-growing online wellness platforms. The company was born out of Grant’s passion for coaching individuals to become happier, healthier versions of themselves. It was through witnessing this positive change in people’s lives that Grant found his calling and true purpose in life.
The company provides one-on-one wellness coaching to help people reach their wellness goals while becoming healthier, both mentally and physically. Coaches help clients set health goals, educate them on healthy habits, provide a clear game plan and offer support and encouragement along the way.
In January 2020, the company launched its Corporate Wellness Program. “The goal of this program is to provide companies with customized packages designed to help them increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, improve company culture, reduce health costs and increase employee retention,” says Reid.
GFIT plans to utilize tech to help support scalability and coaching across North America with the development of an online wellness coaching app. “The app will provide a one-stop-shop with features such as nutrition plans, exercise programs, guided yoga, meditation and binaural beats therapy, step tracking and more,” says Reid.
GFIT Wellness has utilized the North Forge Startup Program to help take their business to the next level. “The program helped us identify a problem, solution, unique selling proposition and unfair advantage,” recalls Reid. “The resources provided by the Startup Program have been invaluable. Assistance in marketing, legal and finance along with programs such as HubSpot have been extremely helpful to us.”
