WINNIPEG, MB – In partnership with accelerators across Canada, Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) today announced funding for 18 Canadian start-ups that are developing the sustainable solutions that will enable a Net Zero future. One of those companies being Carbon Block Inc., a startup in the North Forge Founders Program.

“My congratulations to Carbon Block Inc. for receiving Sustainable Development Technology Canada funding,” said Honourable Ralph Eichler, Minister of Economic Development and Training. “This is sure to be one of many good news stories to come out of North Forge’s new Founders Program, in which the Manitoba government is a proud funding partner. Our vision is to make Manitoba the cleanest, greenest and most climate-resilient province in Canada, and a robust clean-tech economy focused on sustainable development and innovation is a key pillar in Manitoba’s strategic framework to achieve this vision.”

“Government emission reduction programs, such as Efficiency Manitoba, generate valuable carbon offsets which are highly sought after by international corporations.,” says, Alex Stuart, President of Carbon Block Inc., “Carbon Block’s technology measures, reports, and verifies emission reductions, and the STDC funding advances our mission to make decarbonisation programs cost-neutral.”

Carbon Block Inc. is the only Manitoba company selected in this round and one of six to be awarded SDTC Seed Funding in Manitoba. SDTC’s Seed Fund provides early-stage cleantech entrepreneurs with one-time grants of $50,000 to $100,000. Seed Fund applicants are nominated by a select group of Canadian accelerators and other entrepreneurial service organizations from across the country.

“We are proud to have nominated Carbon Block Inc. to receive this funding, a first for a North Forge affiliated startup. They are one of 36 exciting up and coming startups in our new Founders Program!” said Joelle Foster, CEO of North Forge Technology Exchange. “Within the program, we are working with several cleantech startups who are going to disrupt the industry. To this end, we have partnered up with Foresight Cleantech Accelerator to ensure our founders are exposed to the best resources in Canada and are being set up for tremendous success.”
