On November 14th, the North Forge team proudly celebrated the grand opening of the much-anticipated Makers Market at the North Forge Fabrication Lab (FabLab™).
With the addition of the Makers Market, the FabLab™ becomes more than a facility for creation; it evolves into a one-stop destination where innovators can seamlessly transition from prototype development to full-scale production and, finally, to directly selling their innovative products, all within a single, vibrant location.
“This space serves as a dynamic platform for members to proudly exhibit their creativity to the community, simultaneously extending the FabLab’s reach to the wider public,” explains Joelle Foster, President and CEO of North Forge. “Situated as a downtown gem, our goal is to ensure an inclusive experience for all, sparking inspiration and fostering innovation. Beyond this, we are committed to actively contributing to the downtown revitalization, becoming an integral part of the vibrant transformation taking place.”
The FabLab™ has long been a source of inspiration, providing a space where makers, investors, and entrepreneurs can collaborate and bring their ideas to life. With the launch of the Makers Market, North Forge is taking its commitment to supporting members to the next level. Visitors can expect to explore a diverse range of handcrafted, locally-made items that reflect the unique talents and expertise of the FabLab™ members.
“The Makers Market tugs at the imagination. As a member of the FabLab, not only am I able to sell my products but I get to see what others are making and see what rooms and equipment they are using to build their pieces,” said Christoff Epp, Founder of KonaWoodCraft.
In addition to the Makers Market, the expansion to the first floor includes a design space equipped with new professional printing equipment, a heat press and vinyl cutter, and an industrial sewing machine. The new space will also have a coworking area to give the members new opportunities to immerse themselves in creativity and collaboration while using these new tools.
North Forge invites you to shop local this holiday season and stop by the Makers Market, open Tuesday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., centrally located at 312 William Ave, in the heart of downtown Winnipeg.
