As Global Entrepreneurship Month approaches, it’s the perfect time to spotlight how an entrepreneurial mindset can begin early. The Met Innovation Centre for Entrepreneurship (MICE) Program, now in its seventh year, is a testament to the power of young innovators. Through a unique partnership between North Forge and Met Schools, students are turning ideas into thriving business ventures.
Launched in 2018 with just five students, MICE has grown to 30 budding entrepreneurs across three Met Schools. These students gain hands-on experience creating businesses, supported by mentors and real-world problem-solving opportunities. The program culminates in pitch sessions where students showcase ideas ranging from hot sauce production to trading card brokerages, receiving invaluable feedback from North Forge leaders.
Introduced in 2020, “MICE Light” offers Grade 9 students an early glimpse into entrepreneurship. By fostering creativity and critical thinking, this initiative ensures students are ready to dive deeper into their entrepreneurial journeys.
Through internships and project-based learning, students develop ventures spanning robotics, social enterprises, and renewable energy. North Forge provides essential resources like workspace, weekly lessons, and mentorship, ensuring these young entrepreneurs have the tools to succeed.
Led by Stephen Sim, the program equips students with business acumen and life skills like teamwork and problem-solving. North Forge’s Marney Stapley emphasizes the importance of this initiative in shaping creative and competitive future leaders.
As we honor Global Entrepreneurship Month, programs like MICE remind us that innovation isn’t limited to adults. With the right support, young people can drive change and build a brighter future.
