Imagine scanning a QR code on a grocery package and instantly accessing detailed information about where your food comes from, how it was grown, and the sustainability of its production. This is the vision of Winnipeg-based agtech startup TheoryMesh, which is transforming food supply chains with cutting-edge technology.
TheoryMesh goes beyond estimates to track real-time data, from fertilizer applications in the field to products shipped to retailers.
"We provide precise tracking and sustainability metrics," says Chris Bunio, co-founder of TheoryMesh. "Nearly all our conversations now center on sustainability, reflecting growing consumer demand."
Inspired by Bunio’s experience with a gluten allergy and the pandemic’s supply chain disruptions, TheoryMesh’s mission is to digitize food supply chains and enhance transparency for consumers and producers alike.
Founded in 2021 by Chris Bunio, Stephanie Westdal, Paul Westdal, and Anne Kirk, TheoryMesh has made significant strides with the support of North Forge’s incubation program. The business model canvas training proved instrumental in focusing on high-value activities.
"North Forge’s guidance helped us align our efforts on what truly matters," says Bunio.
The startup has secured over $1.2M in funding and partnered with industry leaders like CunicFarms and EcoDairy. Their blockchain-powered QR code technology will soon offer consumers insights into food miles, greenhouse gas emissions, and more, empowering informed grocery shopping decisions.
TheoryMesh’s innovative solutions aim to bring unparalleled efficiency and clarity to the food supply chain, making sustainability metrics accessible to everyone. As they look to the future, the team is committed to helping consumers make informed, ethical choices about their food.
